This movie brought back memories of actually watching the McCarthy hearings on TV. We had just purchased our first television set, so it was exciting to watch anything. I felt the movie moved too slow and certainly would not be that interesting to people who had no background about the era.

This film takes a direct shot at America's obsession with "escape entertainment" on TV at the sacrifice of programming that is dealing with real-life issues and important politics. Whoever dislikes this film is likely someone that is willing to ignore the important issues just as long as they get their "escape fix".

jeezus. could you have possibly made a more uninteresting and unsuspenseful movie? When you start counting the cigarettes smoked by Murrow, you know you are in for a long night. "All the President's Men" this is not. It was written, it seems, assuming that the audience has complete background information on McCarthy/Murrow. Unless you were an adult at the time, this movie will not make much sense. In fact, if you were an adult at the time, you are probably now senile, and this movie will still not make much sense. At least a good dose of senility would be more interesting than this movie.

This story is supposedly historically based, but it is not the least bit entertaining. I personally have a movie going rule: if a movie does not get my attention in the first 15 minutes, I stop watching it because life is too short to watch boring movies. If you want to know the story of Murrow and McCarthy, read a book. If you want to cure your insomnia, rent this movie.

This was the most boring and uninteresting movie I've ever watched. Even my husband who is in the broadcast industry fell asleep. Unless you have insomnia, I wouldn't waste my time.

I disagree with those that argue that you have to like history in order to like appreciate this film. It was not boring at all. Those who found it dull probably need to expand their intellectual lives and start appreciating more intelligent films. I praise George Clooney for being different and not following the Hollywood trend of spitting out stupid, pointless movies. I praise George Clooney for making a movie that forces us to think.

In this sparkling black & white historical drama, the great David Strathairn channels Edward R. Murrow, the newscaster who took on the repulsive, commie-baiting Senator McCarthy. I'm old enough to remember TV from the fifties, and this is a near-perfect recreation of the television milieu of that era. The movie packs a lot of info into its trim 90 minutes, and the thoughtful viewer will discern chilling parallels between the fifties and the new millennium by simply substituting "socialist/pinko/communist sympathizer" with "terrorist/eco-terrorist/terrorist enabler." Of course, the problem today is that neo-McCarthyites have infected the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government -- and there is no Edward R. Murrow in the corporate-owned media to challenge them. Forget the latest over-hyped Hollywood product and watch this multi-faceted gem of a movie if you want to see what American film is still capable of, even within today's debased, consumerist culture.

I find it nearly IMPOSSIBLE to fall asleep during movies.... it bothers me too much not knowing what happened & how it ended. NOT the case for this one. It's sad that it came out so ridiculously, painfully sloooow and seriously boring. I was expecting more from the hype about it... It was disappointing unfortunately.
