Fantasy movie with very unique twist, and quite captivating. Zach Riley (Aaron Eckhart) returns to his hometown to resolve childhood issues concerning death of his father (Nick Nolte). In process, he encounters Gabriel (Ian McKlellan) at a mental institution who engages him in a childhood fantasy land, Neverwas, depicted in his father's book. Surprise, seemingly fantasy film with a twist, this engaging film takes the viewer up and around, and back "home" again. Superb enactments from a supporting cast includes Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, and William Hurt. Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

Great cast. The story and the way it unfolds is unique. The overall acting was very good, especially by McKellen and Eckhart. Still debating if it's a movie that I would ever watch again though. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

The plot moves along nicely, adding enough twists and turns to keep you slightly off balance without total confusion. Each actor makes a great contribution to the whole effort. I would expect to watch this one again enough times to make it worth buying. I debated letting my children watch it, and decided that they didn't need to at this time (ages 9 and 11) but that they could watch it with my wife and I if they wanted to see it. I think it would be a good film to approach the subject of reality vs fantasy when the children face those questions at the edge of their innocence. And it would of course be useful talking about many issues surrounding mental illness, when they have a need to discuss those topics. "Neverwas" "will always be" on my list of excellent movies. Very slow beginnings - a little too slow, HOWEVER this movie is very worth hanging in there with. Ian McKellen is simply marvelous - a thing to behold as always. An interesting storyline. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes
