I would agree w/ another reviewer here that this movie is primarily a courtroom drama 1st and a horror movie second. Performances are strong. Definitely worth the rent. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

Read MoreI thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The scenes of Emily Rose's possession were, to me, even creepier than in The Exorcist. Without resorting to overkill, Emily's bodily contortions and demonic expressions were more disturbing then the green pea soup spewing Regan from the Exorcist. I found the courtroom scenes riviting, and the idea of a trial involving science vs. religion fascinating. As always, Laura Linney is a joy to watch. I'm sorry I missed it on the big screen. Read MoreI would agree w/ another reviewer here that this movie is primarily a courtroom drama 1st and a horor movie second. It isn't on par w/ WPB's 'The Exorcist' but it is one of the better movies dealing w/ the subject to come out in a long while. It's a movie that delivers enough food for thought w/out comprimising the lingering creepieness levels. I liked that the victim of possession in the film took a long time to come under full control of the entity(ies) so the audience is able to witness the prolonged downward spiral. Performances are strong. In Certain areas it delivers chills and revulsion effectively. Definitely worth the rent and if you have a decent Home Theater sysytem you'll be in for a treat. Although there are certainly spooky elements to the film, producing screams are not it's main thrust. This is a movie about faith and spirituality more than anything - well worth seeing! WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes
