Genuinely creepy, this will surely raise the goosebumps. Not at all on the level of THE scariest movie ever made, 'The Exorcist', but chilling in a more low-key way. Excellent performances all around.

I just finished reading the book that this movie is based on. The movie seriously distorts the actual case (e.g. the exorcist, doctor, and defense attorney were not threatened by demonic forces). Laura Linney's acting is sometimes laughably poor. However, Jennifer Carpenter does a chillingly convincing job of portraying the possessed girl. What makes this exorcism movie truly unique--and thought-provoking--is the even-handed courtroom drama that explores the possible explanations of what really happened.

I didn't know at all what to expect when I rented this movie. It seemed too scary at first but since it's based on a true story I wanted to watch it anyway. It's a good movie. It was done in a very proffesional manner, and it is important to watch movies like that from time to time. movies that makes you think a little.

Well done movie. This is a courtroom drama of events and isn't an exorcism focused movie. Although I did get chills watching it even though I'm not religious. Worth seeing if you want a drama. ...

If you are going to use the original “Exorcist as your bench mark movie, you will come up short with this interesting film. The movie relies on story telling, an art form that is slowly being lost to more and more over dosed CGI films. There are some holes in the telling, but all-in-all the film holds water. Just think you might have been unlucky and rented Animal

Nothing bad to say at all about this movie; every aspect was well done, including screenplay, acting, direction, music. It took only about 5 minutes to get into the beef of the movie, and it just kept moving, right until the end. Suspense-filled; creepy; with a positive ending. Not dependent on CGI effects; the acting carries the movie. Not overly complex; the plot can be understood in one sitting, but you will want to watch it twice for the entertainment value. Hollywood needs more like this, and less racial, rap-focused teenage crap. An intelligent movie.

but this ain't no Exorcist. A courtroom drama (with an obvious spin on whose story is the truth), with some minimal and OK moments of "possession." Where's Linda Blair when you need her?
