A regular guy adds some much-needed drama to his life in this comedy. Peter Rooker (Marcus Thomas) is a man who has come to a crossroads in his life -- he's just been given his walking papers by his girlfriend, has lost interest in his job, and is looking for something new in his life. Filled with ennui, one evening Peter walks into a small theater where a community drama company is holding auditions for a production of Cyrano de Bergerac. While Peter has no acting experience and stumbles through his impromptu audition, director Edwina (Clare Higgins) thinks there's a great Cyrano lurking inside him, and gives him the title role. Before long, Peter has gained a new circle of friends, dominated by eccentric small-time actors Michael (John Corbett) and Grace (Amy Smart), who are playing Christian and Roxanne, and a new enthusiasm for life. But as it happens, both Peter and Michael have become infatuated with Grace, and as Peter tries to find a way to win her attention, Edwina begins to wonder if casting Peter was such a good idea after all. Bigger Than the Sky was the first dramatic feature from actor-turned-director Al Corley. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

I recommend this movie by first saying that I have enjoyed most film and TV productions featuring John Corbett. I also have a lot of respect for Amy Smart as well. Having said this, the addition of Sean Astin, a solid script and a "romantic" comedy with real substance made this movie a winner for me. Funny, entertaining, and substantive for the viewer led me to give it a 5 star rating!

The guy lives a pointless life full of boring details. After losing his girlfriend he decides to find something he cares about. Joining a theater troupe opens the door to a new world. Without realizing it, he lives his role of Cyrano, as he comes to understand that his "inner man" is the relationship that needs attention. In touch with his feelings, the role becomes an expression for his new found confidence.

It was fun and real. If you are familiar with theatre than you will like the drama.

Slow mover and plot is apparent from the start. Not a total waste of time but if you have something else to do, do it.....

While a touching story of becoming the person you never knew you wanted to be, Bigger than the Sky was mediocre at best. The supporting cast and a decent script saved this movie from becoming what it never wanted to be; a flop. One good thing about the casting of Marcus Thomas - his acting was so poor the audience could believe that he had never been on stage before. If you can get past Peter and look at the message of the story, Bigger than the Sky can be an enjoyable movie. I give it an okay.
