Ed Harris turns in a terrific performance as the Maestro while Diane Kruger supports wonderfully. The eternal vibrations of Beethoven's creative genius plays throughout the film and makes one ponder the possiblity that perhaps this cantankerous prodigy was indeed touched by God. A must see and one I will add to my personal collection. Bravo maestro!

What a terrific movie! Ed Harris did a fabulous job, and Diane Kruger was also terrific. Yes, it's a contrived situation, and yes, there's a lot of fiction mixed in with the fact. Nonetheless, the spirit of Beethoven was captured beautifully. Three of us, classical musicians all, watched it together and were riveted. Highly recommended!

This movie was incredible! Ed Harris' performance was breathtaking. The acting overall was impressive. Absolutely amazing. If you are expecting a strictly fact based movie this is not it. This movie is an impressive fairy tale-esque story based around Beethoven's 9th Symphony. This movie takes an astonishing person, Ludwig von Beethoven, and weaves an intricate and enjoyable fictional storyline around the factualities of his life and persona. The end result is a breathtaking motion picture with an exceptional core of actors/actresses and supported by an incredible soundtrack. One of the best dramas I have seen in a long time and one I am sure to buy!

I was skeptical when my daughter brought this movie homw but I actually enjoyed it, start to finish. Ed Harris was great. I didn't even realize it was him at first.

This was a nice surprise of a movie. No extremes, just a good way to spend an afternoon.

Beethoven fans, this is for you! It is based on the life of Beethoven and though it was taken from historical records, it was a very exciting take on his tortured life and misfortunes. It may be not all factually correct but was well done and was based on a true story of the biography of the greatest classical composer of all time! The music was fantastically done and extremely moving. I recommend it highly for all classical music lovers everywhere and it is a testament to his genius. I would recommend it for anyone who loves a good story of triumph over adversity. RENT THIS!

This movie was, frankly, rather boring. As an avid Beethoven and period drama fan, I do feel it was worth seeing, but it did not leave me yearning for more. The film simply lacked passion. Ed Harris does a good job portraying a crude, strongwilled Beeethoven, but I never experience the sense of musical genius that I did after watching Amadeus or even Gary Oldman in Immortal Beloved. This is a good movie, and the sets and costumes are all very lovely, but I have no desire to see it again.

I'll keep it short. The final scene before Beethoven's death is directly lifted from Amadeus. It was done better by Thomas Hulce and F Murray Abraham
