Horribly disappointed with Sophia Coppola. The genius of her father clearly wasn't passed through blood.

As a history buff, who has read books on Marie Antionette, I really hoped this movie would be good, but it was not. The costumes were beautiful, the scenery, countryside.. were beautiful, but how long can we watch Marie and her friends run around, drink, eat, gamble and read in the meadow? (BORING) Then suddenly all of Paris is storming the castle and then the family is lead away and the screen fades to black as she says goodbye to her life? Where is the drama of the trial, the prison, the execution? This movie could have been so much more - it was a big disappointment!

The movie tended to lag a bit.... but I did have fun with it. The 80's soundtrack to go with the whole 1700's theme really brought humor to the movie, and the music actually worked well with the movie. Kirsten Dunst is either a bad actress... or she just doesn't seem to pick rolls that are at her level. I tend to expect very little out of her, but was actually impressed in this film.

I was expecting a slightly punky or rebellious, teenage-girlish take on a misfortunate life and unsuspecting society and that is exactly what I got. The end was disappointing and completely anticlimactic but I will watch it again because it is fun for me, as a girl, to wrap my brain around the abounding opulence this girl was dropped into. And who wouldn’t want to be her in the scene “Shoes & Cake”?
