I was really disappointed. It was hard to get into. I like Kirsten Dunst, but this was not her best work. All the dinner scenes were hard to follow, with all the whispered gossiping among characters. If they are going to show it, make it easier to follow and hear what's being said.

I won't say this movie was horrible, but it was definitely a waste of time. If the cannes audience hated it I can definetely see why. It felt like the movie was trying too hard to be significant to today's audience. I think there are subtler ways that this can be achieved. The movie turned out to be oversimplified fluff. If you're a teenage girl who's into boybands and glitter, then this is the kind of air popped movie that you'll probably love.

The costumes and staging was beautiful, as is Kirstin Dunst but the music ruined it!! This is a period drama not a rock concert. Trying too hard to be like "A Knight's Tale" but the script didn't live up to it. Disappointing ending - I was looking forward to a beheading but left "hanging". Ha!

Sofia Coppola must have thought she was dressing up a barbie doll instead of directing a movie. Also the music was way off base.

Overall, this was a boring movie. Even history buffs would consider this boring, since the movie covers quite a small portion of Marie Antoinette's life - the movie ends long before the dark period of her family begins. The content of the movie was amazingly researched and reenacted tremendously. The art, politics, lifestyle, and overall feel of this movie certainly transports you to European monarchy life during Marie Antoinette's days, and the era of the French Revolution. However, aside from the lovely dresses, scenery, and aristocracy involved, the movie is about as exciting as reading these events from a highschool Eurpoean History textbook. The only amazing redeeming quality of this movie is the fantastic soundtrack. My recommendataion is to skip the movie, and use your admission ticket price to buy the soundtrack, overall much more enjoyable.

This was a very beautiful movie and I enjoyed it. I only wish that we got to see the real darkness of her later years.
