A disturbing but beautifully-directed journey into the terror, innocence, and resiliency of childhood. Yes, the film is bizarre and the situations are exaggerated, often to a fault. But as Giliam warns us in the commentary at the begining "if it's shocking, it's because it's innocent." Be warned there are unsettling territories covered: pedophilia, drug abuse, the mentally-challenged, but rest assured these situations are implied, rarely shown, and are tastefully handled from the innocence of a child's perspective without excusing or glorifying them. Not to mention the cinematography is gorgeous, on par with Big Fish or Delicatessen.

This movie definitely left me feeling...strange. I liked it, but it was very odd. This little girl carries pretty much the entire movie and does an outstanding job at it.

It's Terry Gilliam, so anyone expecting something warm, cozy, and entertaining for the sake of entertainment will be disappointed...and disturbed. After the mild commercial effort of Brother's Grimm, this is a return to form of the type of challenging filmmaking Gilliam is best known for. Highly recommended, but not for wimps or mainstream whiners.

Directed from the far out (very far out) mind of Terry Gilliam. If ever a film was not for everyone, this is it. Some scenes quite beautiful, some quite morbid, some quite funny and all very trippy. If Terry Gilliam were Alice and fell down the rabbit hole - here ya are. Twisted. I liked it though several scenes were very hard to watch - maybe a little too too - or I'd have rated this even higher. Jodelle Ferland the young girl was simply something to behold in the lead of this bizzare film.

Much longer than it needed to be this movie was captavating with lots of neat imagery but all in all it was lacking the pace and storytelling to keep it interesting for the entire length of the movie.

If you enjoy abstract concepts with no plot or story line this is the movie for you. Well directed but with no story to tell. Hoooray!

There is no way to describe this movie. All I know is I rank this up there as one of the worst movies ever. Terrible.
