Part of American-International's "Beach Party" series, Beach Blanket Bingo was directed by William Asher. Frankie (Frankie Avalon) briefly deserts Dee Dee (Annette Funicello) in favor of pop star Sugar Kane (Linda Evans). Also around and about is a mermaid, appropriately named Lorelei (Marta Kristen). Scurrilous cycle gang leader Eric Von Zipper (Harvey Lembeck) finds time to sing a tune, while Paul Lynde sneers a lot, Don Rickles insults a lot, Buster Keaton mimes a lot, and columnist Earl Wilson lets everybody know who he is by exclaiming "That's Earl, brother." This type of movie isn't for everyone, but I enjoyed it. Some might find it very corny, but what do you expect for a beach comedy from the 60's? The casting is great and the movie makes me wish I was born a little earlier. Linda Evans is almost unrecognizeable in this movie. She's still attractive, but man was she a looker back then! This is a movie I may end up buying and watching right around the start of the summer. The dancing bikini girls during the final credits are great too.

I loved these movies when I was a kid, but like most pop icons Frankie & Annette are better worshipped from afar, softened by the mists of time. And it drives me crazy that the producers of this series had Dick Dale, The Beach Boys, The Kingsmen, The Hondells, the Surfaris and soo many others sitting around at their beck n' call... and DIDN'T LET 'EM DO THEIR THING! For example, the great Les Baxter scored the incidental music for this movie, but you'd never know it by listening. FINKSTERS: check out "Bonehead" - first he wears a "Hot Curl" tee, then a hand-painted Big Daddy Roth "Surfink" tee and Roth's "hillbilly crash helmet"!

Thought this was a different old funny comedy/musical like the 60's... Turned out to be the wrong movie, pretty stupid, could not watch entire movie...
