It's got a wonderful balance of humor, quirkiness, and sensitivity. The second half of the film, well set up by the first half, is truly inspiring. Beautiful. Read More A 14 yr old boy (Ralph) in the 1950s who has lost his father to war and who's mother is in a coma needs a miracle. Adam Butcher who plays Ralph does a brilliant job and I hope to see more from him in years to come. Campbell Scott gives an inspiring performance as a young priest who coaches Ralph in his impossible bid to run the Boston Marathon. This film is about the hope & faith placed in miracles, and perhaps seeing the real miracle is the faith itself that seeks it. This film also illustrates the saint that is within each of us. I was wrong. It seem that more emphasis was placed on "the pool" incident than the running itself. His mother was in a comma and he was working toward a miracle to help her. Why couldn't the movie have focused on that instead of "the pool". It is as if the writer couldn't make up his mind on whether he wanted a heart warming story or a half-baked comedy. Read More I truly appreciated this gem. Ralph clearly inherted his mother's positive, can-do outlook and this enables him to persevere against some pretty difficult odds. It was heart-warming without being trite. Adam does a fantastic job playing Ralph. The characters were believable as opposed to sterotypical black and white which gave this tale a more realistic quality. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

Read More The only thing I believe could improve Saint Ralph would have been were it a true story. Regardless, I really enjoyed this movie and some of the choices each of the charactors had to make - especially the coach and the headmaster. This movie deals with some sexuality issues that make it inappropriate for your pre-teens. But otherwise; this movie has a good story and solid acting. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More Why do people want to characterize a movie as a "family movie?" If you have young kids, consider that the movie has an extended scene with a woman's bare bottom and a kid getting his rocks off. Is that a "family movie?" I don't have kids. I wouldn't characterize this as a "family movie;" it is just a GOOD MOVIE. Good character development, plausible in that kids think unrealistically, not the nice neat happy ending (but not an unhappy ending). Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL?
