Read More OK, I knew I was in trouble with this movie when the dog in the movie is not the same dog that is on the cover art or even the main menu! The dog on the cover appears to be a pit bull - snarling and frothing blood. The ACTUAL dog in the movie is a Bull Terrier. For you non AKC members - that would be the Spud's McKinzie dog. Thats right, that carefree beer swiling mutt from those 80's Bud Light commercials has apparently followed Johnny Depp to France where he is making low budget art house "horror" films. The only person this film might scare are Miller Light drinkers. The reason that I put those little things around the word horror is that the only "horror" in this film is the abuse that is done TO the dog! This French film is slow , boring and has absolutely no horror or suspense. If you want a scary dog movie rent Cujo, if you want a great independent horror flick rent May - but whatever you do stay way from this dog - because it fails on every level! Read More A rather bold film from France which examines the origins of violence through the eyes of a terrier and his maladjusted boy master. This film's script is completely amoral...it really is quite unusual in that regard. The director presents the actions and attitudes of the characters without trying to condemn, or justify. This is no morality play. It is also NOT a family film. Besides the pervasive cruelty and violence, there are also sexual elements which are standard fare for continental films of this vintage. In many regards, watching Baxter is like watching a train wreck : witnessing something tragic with no ability to modify the outcome. Baxter is a fine piece of filmkraft which may not appeal to the general viewer. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I thought it was so disturbing, to think of a pet like that was so creepy. I especially hated it when the little boy killed him. To film something like that, a child killing, that is just wrong. The screenplay is terrible. The actors/ actresses are horrible. From the cover you think it may be a good film. Within a few minutes of the movie starting, you are left wondering .... "is this really the movie I rented?" It is also in subtitles! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

That cover was a sunny yellow with the bull terrier thinking somewhat dark but semi-amusing thoughts. That cover lead a friend and I to believe it was a dark comedy. Oh were we wrong. This movie is just disturbing without being interesting. Just messed up for the sake of being messed up, I think. I tried to give it a fair shake, but in the end, it really is one of my least favorite movies of all time. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
