I expected the film to make it into something else. It was very good and I enjoyed it. My brother was a Marine and the film captured the atmosphere and platoon culture accurately. Jarhead is simply about what it's really like to be a Marine. Sometimes its boring, sometimes its exciting, mostly it's about doing a job that has to be done and that most people couldn't do. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

Read More OK, I loved this movie. I spent a few years in the service including a stint overseas and this movie did a great job showing how difficult it is for those in the service. For all of the people I left back home and couldn't find a way to put into words what was going on in my head or what life was like over there. Being in the service is quite a bit different from the civilian world. This did a good job of showing the garbage a soldier has to go through. Preparing one's mind to take the life of another only to never be put in the situation. All the rationalizing you had to do just needs to be shut off. It's a crazy thing to be in the Military, especially to be a grunt.
I thought it did a good job of showing military life. Not the glamor of life/death situations, but the day to day. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

This is an excellently produced, directed, acted and portrayed picture of exactly what it is like to live in a marines uniform 24-7. the dedication, the mind-games, the girl-friends faith-less-ness, the devotion to duty and the playing to egos are portrayed exactly as I remember it.
