Here is another offering, beautifully filmed, with a rather unusual musical score, and, filled with a tension that give one the sense that all will be revealed once the ending comes. But, alas, Denis has still not realized that the basis of a good movie is a story that viewers can relate to, not a series of abstractions that leave one wondering what in the world she is trying to say. She must be a very complex woman as very little of the story makes any sense. Nothing is resolved or even tied together. This just might be my last attempt to view anything she does. Read More If you rent this self indulgent piece of tripe, I suggest you keep your finger near the fast forward button. This film has numerous plots none of which come to fruition. It is a story filled with undefined relationships that continually fails to tell you who the characters are or what they do or why they are there. If this is the kind of thing you like you might also be interested in the continuous fire in the fireplace video they sometimes play on cable TV during the Christmas Holiday season. Read More Like her "Beau Travail" but less so, Clair Denis' THE INTRUDER is another of the most overrated films of the past couple of years. Visually interesting from time to time, it offers a slight story, minimal characterization and far too much stream of consciousness and try-to-connect-the-dots moviemaking for my taste. There are themes aplenty--mortality, immigration, organ trafficking, the animal/human conundrum, to name a few. But everything is filtered so completely through the mind of Ms. Denis, with little regard for those who might be viewing the finished product. After garnering so much praise in some circles, the film will probably be a must-see for many. For me, it bordered on a waste of time. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

I think the director want us to see what the characters see and feel what they feel, but I'm just an impatient American. I want to be entertained for a few hours. I don't need a movie to help me stare out into a French countryside (To be fair, the scenary is nice). If you think that my comments make me a unsophisticated bourgeois, then this movie might be for you. If you agree, stay away.
