The style in which it is edited and laid out is far from conventional, but I think that if one gives it a chance while watching it instead of just immediately dismissing it as "weird," it's easily understood. It is, in short, a story about the stages a man and his wife go through as they try to deal with the concept of her inevitable death. The visuals are gorgeous. The score is incredibly powerful, as well as interesting; it's one of the few times I've heard instruments from the classical and rock/pop genres merged in a way that doesn't sound jarring or obvious.
So don't be scared, go ahead and try something that goes against that grain a little bit; I promise it will be worth it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I know the movie is described as a "tale of a man's thousand-year quest to save the woman he loves," but that is not the way I saw it. As it appeared to me, there was the main story, which was supplemented by the symbolic fictional (fiction within fiction?) story within the story. (I don't want to be too specific or else I'll give too much away and ruin it for anyone who bothers to read my review.)
The movie is well made and the script is good, if you're in the mood for a story of love bordering on bad obsession. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More The core idea for the script was commendable, however I think the 3 segments intertwining (though I understood why the director & writer chose to do it that way) just became too fragmented and the story (or moral of it) gets lost along the way. HOWEVER to it's credit this by far is one of the most beautiful and visually stunning films I have seen. The Tree of Life Mother ship was farrrrrrr out. The use of darkness and light - all symbolic was very well done. Outstanding really. The whole story revolves around a man in the present time trying to find a cure for his dying wife. He becomes her Conquistador who takes on the quest to save her. He is in a fashion the Conquistador of Hope. Her love and faith in him - feeds that hope. Faith and Hope always go hand in hand. In the end it's about our own mortality and the quest for life everlasting (which as the movie points out - perhaps we all already have) Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Just did not work. Sure, the visuals were stunning, but thats all to offer really. To much flip flopping. Some of the charecter sub-plots were good, while some were just mind-numbing. Its unique in its own way. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

This flick is VERY boring at best. Who ever wrote it must be a bizarre person. The acting was great and the effects were good. But the story...forget it. Too much back n forth, and the story about the spanish conquistadorwas made me feel like i was in school. It was just too much and way to hard to follow. And I don't want to watch it again. Save your time, rent something else. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
