Night of the Comet (1984)
Member Rating:
In this satirical sci-fi comedy, Samantha (Kelli Maroney) and Regina (Catherine Mary Stewart) are two sisters whose father was a hard-bitten Green Beret, but who've grown into typical Valley Girls. They end up spending the night in a steel-lined room just as a comet passes close to the earth, vaporizing the people in its wake. When Samantha and Regina emerge, they discover that they have the city to themselves, and they begin the shopping spree to end all shopping sprees. En route to the mall, they discover Hector (Robert Beltran), the only survivor they've found so far, and they argue over who gets the last boyfriend on Earth. However, the mall holds an unpleasant surprise -- a small army of zombified stockboys who the gals must battle using an arsenal they shoplifted along the way (while lamenting that "Daddy would have gotten us Uzis!" after a MAC-10 fails to fire). Meanwhile, a cadre of soldiers from a special military experiment have come out of hiding, but it seems that they need fresh blood to survive, and Samantha and Regina look like just the refreshment they need. Cult figure Mary Woronov also appears in a supporting role as a scientist. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

I remember this movie vaguely from when it came out before. I loved watching it again. Thoroughly entertaining and great make-up on the zombies for how old it is- I have seen much worse on more recent movies. This is a comedy, not a scary movie. Don't want to return it yet so I can watch it again.

The end of this movie came too soon! Although I liked the theme, I kept thinking there should be a little more to the end!

I remember this movie from a long time ago and I liked this movie. It was not bad at all pretty good to be a classic and have the zombies that they did.

Enhanced by Kelli Maroney's femme coolness surrounding her supposed cheerleader innocence. I know I go to the movies to escape reality....not watch what I can see on the news or by looking out my window...although in this case, I'd hesitate to look out the window during a comet....this movie might someday be an omen. Watch the skies and enjoy! :o>

If you liked Roddy Piper in "They Live", you'll love this movie. Yes, it REEKS of the 80's, and no, the effects aren't very special, but it's FUNNY, and I can certainly appreciate the Machiavellian aspect of the story with regards to the scientists attempting to make "syrum" from the blood of children un-affected by the comet. You oughta see this just for the camp factor.

This one never was stellar (pun intended), what with the poor science and questionable acting on the part of some of the principles, but it's fun to watch it now and then for a nostalgia trip through the churn-em-out-fast SF craze of the early 80s trying to cash in on the phenomenal success of Star Wars.

Its like the 80's, and life is just so Knarly, know what I mean dudes?? I mean, geez, your paents are in our face, and theres NOTHING to do, and NOW there's some lame-o meteor shower, or comet, or like whhaaaattever...... THEN.. Nobodys around, only these piles of tow-toe-lee skanyious dust..... even the MALL is empty!!! But, like, WE ARE NOT like ALONE!! If you are a teen-ager, tweene, OR were one in the eighties, this is a MUST-SEE!!! Funny-Cheesy, without being completely LAME!! WEAR your PoLyEsTeR when watching, any white belts, and shoes also when watching this, and THEN Watch the Skies!! Short Version: Day of the Triffids in "The Valley" Righteous!!
