I wasn't a Johnny Cash fan till I saw this movie, and planning on picking up the soundtrack for sure.
Beautiful acting and singing.
Definitely a good movie to rent.

I wasn't a big Cash fan going in, and my guess is that maybe I was expecting more from the film than I got. Read MoreI wasn't a big Cash fan going in, and my guess is that maybe I was expecting more from the film than I got. I enjoyed the storyline and the acting was good, but it didn't blow me away in any manner that would warrant a higher rating from me. The first half of the movie was better for me. The second half dragged a bit.
Unlike others, the drug portions didn't come off as a negative because it was the reality of the man. Leaving it out would have been worse. Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

This was a great movie, we enjoyed it so much. We learned more about Johnny and June Cash. Singing was awesome. Highly recommend this movie, great story, wonderful actors. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

You forget that he is not really Johnny Cash and w/ no lip syncing he and Reese did a great job at sounding like Johnny Cash and June Carter. A must see movie!!!!! Read MoreI wanted to like this movie alot. I really did. But if it weren't for Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix's performances, I would have turned it off half-way through. Of the two, I thought that Reese was amazing. It's the best role I've ever seen her in. But unless you're a Johnny Cash fan, it's just another singer-cheats-on-his-wife-and-gets-into-drugs story. It was the same cookie cutter famous person biography: kid is born into poverty, has a musical talent, that talent lifts him out of poverty and into fame and fortune, new star finds drugs and women and almost loses everything until saved miraculously by friends and family. wait for the dvd!!! or better yet just get the soundtrack.
