Read More The acting, now that I reflect, was pretty phenomenal. Witherspoon deserved her Oscar (mostly because of the other nominees, who were laughable) and Phoenix was, if not the perfect Cash because some sticklers just can't take his lip-scar and the way he sings, a fair choice and a great actor, though evenly beat in the Oscar race. The only problem I had with this movie was what the plot revolved around: the "love, drugs and redemption" cliche. Well-directed, yes, a story about one of rock and roll's legends, yes, but in the quality of romance, the movie walked a tedious line, thin enough to get me worried. Not the best, not quite what I wanted, not ever a "Best Picture", but still a good rental nonetheless. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Voice doesn't make it, even when they "Morph" it. Not much life bio, more or a drug ridden portrayal. Reese is always good, but potrays June Carter more as an innocent, then possible given her life and career. More negatives here than positives. Not a flattering movie for the Cash family, sort of one sided. Oscar worthy? I don't see it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Reese Witherspoon was excellent. If you didn't know better you would think the two actors were not amature singers that just had voice training for this production. To take on the charm and the personality of the beloved artist which they portrayed they couldn't have picked 2 better actors. 2 thumbs up. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

It's a story about a man who can't be satisfied with his wife and kids, cheats on them, hates his dad, and does drugs as a way to get over it. What a pathetic life! I must commend Reece, she was truly superb. This might be her best work. Joaquin is one of my favorite actors, but he just didn't seem to fit the part. Musically, the movie was entertaining. It was especially interesting because of the depiction of events based on true past happenings. JR Cash sure did walk the line in an era when a majority of people had a bible banging, republican, and bigoted mindset! Good performances by Phoenix and Witherspoon. superstars were represented in the early stages of their careers. If this movie holds to truth, it sheds light into how entertainers of the past weren't too different in their lifestyle to entertainers of today. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More In a year where Hollywood didn't feel the need to try to influence politics it would have gotten a nomination. This is a great movie about The Man in Black. The storytelling is great and Reese Witherspoon nails her role. I was not a big fan of Cash before this movie (I only knew of Ring of Fire), but this is the classic story of a hard working American working his way up despite a family tragedy to make it to the top.
