Read More The movie is based on the life of the legendary singer Johnny Cash. Joaquin Phoenix does as superb job in becoming Johnny Cash- his mannerisms, inner struggles and his music. I have to say I found Joaquin to be phenomenal with his singing- he sounds just like Cash, perhaps even better. His smoldering , intense eyes and his focus on love of his life, June Carter will make you sigh and wish you were June. Reese Witherspoon as June Carter also sings her own songs and does wonderfully as well. She portrays June as smart, hard-working and compassionate. She valiantly fights the attraction that she & Johnny feel - even though she fails. The movie explores his childdood, early life & rise to fame, first marriage, attraction to June, drug use, fall from grace and lastly, his triumphant return to the top. I did not like the ending of the movie. I thought the movie was about all his life until his death time.Itstops at the wedding with June Carter and Johnny Cash.

Read More I just saw the advanced showing to this movie today and I was surprise at the great job Joaquin Phoenix did as Johnny Cash, I always believed he was a terrific actor . . . but in this role, he proved to me that he is better then even I though he was. This is a movie worth the price of admission. It gives you a real insiders look at Cashs life. A lot of the body of this film is reveling as to Cashs inner most thoughts. Weather youre a country western fan or not, this is a winner. This movie is not all about his music, but rather what made Cash an icon. I think most people will find this a well spent two plus hours. And as for the acting, I thought Jaoquin Pheonix as twice as good as Reese Witherspoon and I am a HUGE fan of both of them. Reese did not deserve an oscar nod for this performance, it was NOT one of her best! This reminded me of any other Lifetime movie, and the first 30 minutes were a complete bore. I'm glad I didn't pay money at the theatre for this, as I couldn't have been more disappointed. I was expecting more having watched other such films, but I would not recommend this to anyone unless they just can't get enough country music - and I thought that was just O.K.!
