"Adorable" or maybe "dear" pretty much describes Dan Mirvish's OPEN HOUSE, but do give yourself a few minutes to sink into the sensibility here--which is a bit like an independent movie version of the off-off-Broadway musical genre. The result may be foolish fun, but it's handled with such all-out joy and enthusiasm by the very game cast that some of you will be happy to go along for the ride. Which gets better--if sillier--with each proceeding mile. Real estate and home are the themes here, and Mirvish does some satiric, screwy things with the former and adds some lovely touches to the latter. With the exception of Anthony Rapp ("Rent") and Sally Kellerman, whom I believe did a cabaret stint some time back, most of the cast do not appear to be "pro" singers or dancers. Yet between their efforts and that of Mirvish and his editor, they've cobbled together a charming piece of work. "Open House" is pretty much a one-of-a-kind experience, but one that we were delighted to have had.

Somehow I missed the fact that it was a musical however I thought I'd give it a chance because the story line sounded interesting. However I didn't really get the chance to enjoy the story because I cringed everytime they sang. Even if you are a fan of musicals, this one just does not cut it! I've heard better singing on karaoke night at a drunken hillbilly bar, lol. If you want a good musical I highly recomment any of Tyler Perry's plays.

This is one of the worst comedy/musicals I have ever seen. The story is amateurish, the acting is beneath high school level and the singing is abominable.

I must have missed something somewhere. If this work received awards and other praises, I don't see how. I was bored within the first 10 minutes. It didn't get any better within 30 minutes so I gave up. Maybe the award winning features were at the end of the movie??
