This was a first-rate epic movie. I cannot understand why it didn't win an Oscar for best picture. It really depicted Russia at the height of the Russian Revolution. The acting was superb!!! My only complaint is that it was a little long.

Great epic, great movie, superb acting. It is a mistery to me the fact I never heard of it. Beautifully explained the problems of Russia during that time.

This was a spectacular film in every respect.. a top notch cast of many greats in filmdom and the the locations were equally spectacular..although quite long, the film covers quite a field of action and never becomes tiresome..the sets and costumes were magnificent and true to the era..today a film like this would be prohibitively expensive (2009) and probably impossible to cast..so we are lucky to have this masterpiece in our collection..thankyou Mr. Schaffner and the producers! 41/2 STARS!!

Close but no cigar. Despite top notch talent on both sides of the camera , epic production values , sharp script, fine acting, etc.--it still comes off as a bit lifeless. Worth it for history buffs, tedious for others. For the kids, rent animated "Anastacia".
