Despite all the negative reviews, I really loved and enjoyed this movie. This tear jerker didn't have the expected happy ending, but it is worth watching. There was real chemisty between Salma and collin and their love story was believable.

This movie really reminds a lot of 'Shinning Through', with Melanie Griffith and Michael Douglas, as far as the relationship goes between Colin and Salma. Their very antagonistic towards one another, but the love story is very unique, and deals with racism duing that time, and accepting yourself. I really liked it. It's a different take on love.

Great potential but limited character development-abrupt end. Great eye candy for men and women

ASK THE DUST start out so charmingly and interestingly that I found myself thinking, "What was wrong with critics and audiences?" Then the movie passed the half-hour mark and… now I know. By the end, I'd witnessed one of the duller sour-relationship stories, with most of its clichés intact but without any specifics that might reveal the depths of the relationship. What was Robert Towne, director/adapter of John Fante's novel, thinking in order to end up with something this simple-minded & pointless? Perhaps his love for the book (I've not read it) blinded him to the differing strengths & needs of novels & movies. Whatever: the series of increasingly lifeless scenes between Farrell & Hayek culminate in an almost laughably sentimental, silly ending. Idina Menzel (everyone's favorite "Wicked" witch) fares best among the actors. Caleb Deschanel's cinematography is crack, as usual, and we do get an eye-opening look at Hayek's incredible body but only a glimpse of Farrell's full-frontal.

enjoyable. Except for the immature, abusive behavior and fatalism that robs the battered soul in this movie. Hayak and Ferrell are beautiful to look at but can't redeem this vague love story. Just lacks the strength needed to make these characters memorable. You can clean your drawers and watch this at the same time. Too bad.

This poorly written soap opera is surprisingly bad given its pedigree. I should have heeded the low rating from other BB viewers and disregarded the "Two Thumbs Up" this film somehow garnered. Farrell's character is uninteresting and juvenile. The story is meandering, confusing and unengaging. And the only highlights in this draggy film were the nude scenes with Salma Hayek. She looks great! Without her disrobing for a strangely uninterested Farrell every 20 minutes, I'd give this disaster zero stars

Probably the worst movie I have ever seen in my life . . . After the first 1/2 hour, I couldn't stand it anymore---had to turn it off. Bad script, bad acting, bad everything!
