Hilarious light harted dark comedy. Both Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer are very unique characters. I love the way the story is narrated. I really enjoyed this film.

A charming and unique lil caper. Downey Jr and Kilmer are both favorites of mine and they certainly didn't leave me down - Monaghan just sparkles. Totally enjoyed.

I had numerous problems with this movie. First,it's talky, containing excessive dialogue and, especially in the beginning, excessive voice over narration. Secondly, writer-director Shane Black handled the expostion in a clumsy and inefficient manner. Compare this film to classic film noirs, like "D.O.A." and "Too Late for Tears." See how quick the setup is. Also note how sparingly these films use voice over narration. The films grab the audience's attention and do so in a truly cinematic manner. Thirdly, the plot is waek, though, I guess, that was intentional. The film has a kind of antiplot, with numerous coincidences, accidents, deus ex machina rescues, etc. I guess, there are people who go in for this type of thing, but, as for me, I prefer films with well-plotted stories told in a linear and genuinely cinematic manner.

I can't for the life of me figure out what everybody likes about this film. It was offensive, insulted my intelegence, difficult to follow, and boring for the first half. Only during the second half do you start to make sense of the film. There was one time when Robert Downey Jr. talks about people from L.A. being "damaged goods" that started to make sense of the characters in the movie. I will quickly forget this one.
