I watched this as an experiment into the life and heart of a coach. My baby boy is a collage coach and I was trying to figure out why family is on the bottom of his priority list. I have watched him play and seen him coach and can say he is as concerned with his students as Coach Carter in this movie. In reflection didn't I promise God if he would let my son live I would give him to him. Having kept my word to raise him in the church and having had God tell me let him Go. Don't I see the Good he is working through this movie. Now I can undersand God's plan. I hope more young men find Coaches like them.

This movie had its good moments and has a very well performing cast. However, the movie did not flow naturally and is too long. A few times I actually thought that the movie was at the end, but it wasn't. I did not even get to watch the ending as I turned it off and sent it back to blockbuster. This movie does not need to be this long as they ran out of substance about 3/4 of the way through.

Coach Carter really touched a deep part of me because I went to college in the East Bay area, and I definitely know and can relate to the environment in which these young men were raised. It is one where African Americans are more likely to go to prison than college, more likely to get shot in their own neighborhoods than go to class. With one man's deeply concerted efforts to effect change on a social level, I saw that this has lasting ramifications not only for the greater good, but for the indivduals whose lives would be forever touched by the man they called "Coach". This is definitely a fantastic plot with well-choreographed basketball scenes, integrated with a poignant message for our modern day youth. Excellent.
