And in this respect ,it is done very well. The ... Read More This movie falls short of what most would consider blockbuster action spectacular. But at it's core it is more foriegn/ indepedent/ art film/ tragedy. And in this respect ,it is done very well. The special effects are not sub par just done in a different way then americans are used to. It is almost a cross of "300" meets an old Akiri Kirowsowa epic. The begining set up is a little silly (almost godzillaish) and the tragic drama is more then a little heavy handed. But the depth of its antiwar message seems genuine. and its spiritual ending alla "the foantain" is actually quite stunning. Take a chance and see something different. Cashern is worth the rent. It is probably the most accurate assessment of a movie I've read on this site. IMO, this is like watching a live action anime, which is really cool if you're into that kind of thing (I am). The soundtrack was GORGEOUS. People complain about the CG, but I think the idea was that it was supposed to look animated and fake. It's not like in the Star Wars prequels where they try and blend CG with live actors. I guess I can see why some people didn't enjoy it, as it was a bit hard to follow, but what japanese film isn't? Overall, this movie is really well done, but I can see why an English speaking audience wouldn't necessarily "get it". Overall, the tone and atmosphere of this movie was ... Read More I was surprised how many bad reviews this movie got, I thought it was surperb. One reviewer said the CGI was lacking but I thought it was great. Overall, the tone and atmosphere of this movie was just spectacular. The CGI gave it a hyper-real super-vivid look that reminded me The 300 or Sin City. And the artistic style reminded me of Renaissance and Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. It was very surreal not just visually but also the concept itself. Apparently, according to one reviewer, they cut 30 minutes from the original and I would like to know what I missed but overall I found this VERY enjoyable. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More This movie was interesting but most of the time you didn't really know whats going on, the story would have random things happen that weren't really connected to anything else and they made no effort to explain the connections. The whole feel of the movie was I wanna be an anima film but where live action hence everything but the actors was this weird seemingly crappy cg but it seemed like that was the intention to make it seem animated. Read More I thought this movie might be fun based on what I saw and the reviews on the dvd case, but it isn't. The story is too convoluted and the CG isn't very good either. They could have spent a lot less money making this animated, it would have been a lot more believable. I ended up turning it off and going to bed instead, much better use of time.
