Great story line, excellent thriller, and great acting by Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman. Wish I had seen it in the theater.

Definitely not a movie I would recommend. It seemed to drag at times and I thought the acting was mediocre. Sean Penn was probably the best actor, though Nicole Kidman was all right, just not terrific. The plot was a little unbelievable and hard to follow at times.

one of the better movies to watch. Keeps you interested every minute and not a dull moment. Surprised that there was not more hype made about this movie.

Keeps you wondering what the characters are up to and wondering if there is some quick action right around the corner. As a suspense movie this will hold your attention. Good to see Sean Penn in a serious role that her fulfills well. Could have used a bit more action, but perhaps that contributes to the suspense of the whole movie.

For about an hour or so THE INTERPRETER manages a pretty good show. But this is one of those films in which a lead character says "I'm not lying!" when she is leaving certain facts out of the picture. Trouble is, she's leaving out so MANY facts that another entire movie or two could be manufactured around them. Why on earth would filmmakers as usually savvy as Sidney Pollack (director) and Anthony Minghella (co-producer) load down Kidman's character with a back story long and heavy enough to choke a horse? The nod to Africa--the contempt of its dictators, the needs of its people--is appreciated, but finally this falls into the trap of being the usual excuse for suspense, thrills and shock. Of which, there are some. But since the film is half an hour too long, by its end you may be shouting at the screen, "Stop the babbling and just SHOOT somebody!" Hmmm. Can’t believe that I--a confirmed pacifist--am actually saying this. But that's how tiresome this movie finally becomes.

Is anybody supposed to believe that this is even semi-realistic? We still don't know whose conversation she overheard. Oh I get it now, this movie stars ultra-hip Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman so we have to say we like it or we will be perceved as uncool or not tuned in. At least it was original and not a remake.
