This movie was a big let down. Director Sydney Pollack really dropped the ball on this one. With a great cast and what seems to be a strong script. The film falls on its face haft way though the action. I say action with a tung and a cheek. Fast moving for 58 minutes and then the movie starts to put you into a coma. It quickly dies on the vine and no matter how strongly the cast Pollack lets the movie wither. I really wonder what most professional reviewers were watching when they gave this movie as many as five stars. What and insult to movie goers. What it all comes down to, is the movie worth renting? The movie boasts a strong cast and super director, and manages to move along for a while and thatÂ’s what makes this movie rentable. BUT JUST RENTABLE, and not worth the price of a PVT . . .

Not the best movie I've seen. It is, however, an interesting political statement about the UN's abject failure to affect real change in war torn Africa. It is also appropriate that the main character comes to the UN, as an interpreter, to somehow participate in changing the world through diplomacy. All this while one of her relatives is killed in Africa, an act which could have been prevented if the UN did more than talk. Beyond portraying the impotency of the UN, the movie does have a softer more tender side. The strained budding relationship between Kidman and Penn's characters does add an interesting sub-text to the plot. At times, however, the romantic aspect is overplayed and seems ill suited to a movie billed as a political thriller. Overall, entertaining with enough plot twists to make things interesting and keep you guessing, but, unless you like seeing grown men cry, don't expect too much.

Great cast but they can't save a poorly scripted, boring story.

This is a good movie. It is worth the time. Nicole is, as always, unbelievably good. I was entertained and I want to recommend this to moviegoers.

Who cares about these characters? Kidman's "accent" is annoying as are her ridiculous and unnecessary secrets. I couldn't keep track of the political conspiracy it was so boring.
