But, it ended up capturing my attention as I found myself really interested in the lives, loves, relationships, and tradgedies of these all-American kids. Skating was life; life was skating. People got used; friendships prevailed. It hit dead-on life in the seventies; the authentic scenery, kids on thier own, wardrobe, hair, etc. gave plenty of credibility to the movie. I liked it. It's worth watching. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Regardless of the fact I am not a surfer or skateboarder, I found this movie facinating. I love non-fictional movies and this one really tells the story about how today's skateboarder evolved from a rough surfer crowd in Venice, California. Great 70's rock music, cool cinematography, and realistic historical references. Had a hard time buying into Ledger or Knoxville's characters but everyone else pulled it off. This movie nailed the 1970's surf skate culture. I did think it was a little too crude at times. It actually detracted from a good story.
Still it was an excellent movie. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I don't skate, and I don't surf, but, for what it was I really liked the movie, it took ya back in time and gave ya a brief idea of how the whole thing started with skate-boarding and how it became so popular, since it was based on true events, who made it big, and who didn't and how some fought the whole thing and became gang members. I really liked this film and I was very surpissed that I did. It has a good sundtrack and did a good job of showing how success can temp people and strain friendships. Also, Heath didn't play the pretty boy, he plays an alcaholic hairy surfer with severe issues. I think he was doing a Val Kilmer impersonation, but it was a good performance. I have recommended this film to others. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
