While at its very core, this was a love story, for me, it wasn't a GREAT love story. Not because of its homosexual content, but simply because it didn't move me like I'd hoped it was going to. Something was missing..some nuance of character that would have made me care more...the start of the relationship seemed out of context for me...like where did THAT come from and it never really developed into anything more interesting than a monthly (or whenever) tryst back at Brokeback Mountain, with the usual complications things like wives and children might bring.
But definitely see for yourself...a courageous twist on the love story....magnificent photography and acting. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I had high hopes for this movie, and I really wanted to like it. But it was slow moving, and I never really got the feeling that Jack and Ennis were in love. In lust, yes, but love? Maybe I missed something. And how is it that two seemingly straight men go from being buddies one minute to more than that the next? There was no real "in-between" period to even hint that their relationship would go beyond friendship! I had hoped that the movie would dwell more into the psychological aspect of their homosexuality and its effects on their lives and the lives of their family members, but again, disappointed. And what happened to Jack, I mean, come on! Didn't the viewers deserve more than a two-second flash of what really became of him? I suppose it did make me understand a little more how there can be relationships between two people of the same sex, but that's about it. I didn't walk away with a warm, fuzzy feeling, and I don't think I'll watch it again. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More NO I am not talking about every other tradition mainstream Hollywood movie! Oh wait, I could be because everyone is missing the boat with Brokeback Mountain. At it's core, it a movie about LOVE LOST and INFIDELITY. It just happens to be a tale involving a male couple instead of a male/female couple; the way who intended it to be?? hmmm who was that again, oh right, Alanis Morissette! NOT! TRUE LOVE is between any human being, male or female! And THIS movie is DAMN good! It is a little "long in the tooth" clocking in over 2 hours, but you never really notice, it flows very well. The relationship between Ennis and Jack is something that all of us yearn for, both men and woman. Being with someone who understands us and would do anything for one another. Bravo Heath, Jake and Ang! Bravo! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Two husbands cheat on their wives
one husband does not support his children until after a divorce and a court mandate. One husband even rapes his wife, not just sexually, but emotionally because he is not mature enough to make the decision to walk awaynot that she would notice, because he is not there for his family anyway.
The two main characters deceptively entered into two heterosexual relationships, without care or concern for the lives they created (two daughters in one marriage and a son in the other) or destroyed (their wives) out of their cowardly and selfish desires and lust. It is not until after the death of Jack that the other attempts to consider someone else other than himselfhe tells his daughter he will come to her wedding. There are beautiful landscapes and nature scenes. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

This was an exceptional film if you can get past the beginning. My one complaint is the terrible soundtrack. Jake and Heath were very talented in their roles. I have to admit their first "encounter" with each other was not as I expected. It was so forceful that I couldn't help but laugh. I didn't realize they had given each other enough cues that they were attracted to each other. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

There you go, that's the best part of this long and drawn out movie. Heath Ledger mumbled most of his lines, we couldn't make out what the heck he was saying most of the time. Jake Gyllenhael did a better job, but that's not saying much. This movie was hardly Oscar material. I'm really surprised that it was even nominated. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL?
