Read More Many people find this movie off-putting because it focuses on a homosexual relationship. It is not a fair criticism of the film, and if Ang Lee substituted one of the men for a woman, it would be just another movie in the vein of Romeo and Juliet. Watching the movie, you will be amazed by some of the breathtaking cinematography. There's a silent remorse in watching the hillsides, and the whole story plays out like a modern tragedy. Read More I was not going to see this film but I got it because of what happened to Heath Ledger, it's sad what he did. It's a great movie and it did win a whole lot of Awards some were Academy Awards. Read More Kind of thought provoking and insightful...portrays the very realistic struggle faced by gays...both men (quite obviously in love) married women and had children although they kept discussing the 'what if'...what if they could live the way they really wanted to and just be together without having to hide it...not really possible in our society especially considering this was staged in the early 1970's. great acting. I didn't understand it. If they truly loved each other, why did the other man stay away. Why didn't it bother him to not be with him for long periods (years) at a time. It seems to me that he would not have made a good mate no matter if it was with a male or female. Maybe something in his childhood made him devoid of all love. He seemed to have a broken heart before the relationship even started. Was he really gay? If they stayed together, would they cheat on each other? The gay guy seemed like he would have screwed anybody. It was kind of creepy, but it drew my attention anyway. Why? It made me cry at the end too. Did he emotionally wake up after it was too late?
