I could really see this was a labor of love for him, and I didn't even know he wrote and directed it until after I saw the film. This was one of my favorite performances by Natalie, she really shines in this movie. I know I've watched a great movie when I'm still thinking about it well after the credits have rolled. That said, this movie tries to show people what's actually important in life through the eyes of a young man trying to find himself. Natalie Portman plays a very great role as the young man's love interest and you find yourself quite drawn into her. She's like a diamond he's found in a world that is full of bad things: bad jobs, bad friends, drugs, and crime.

I felt this movie was very timely. There are so many who are affected by depression but perhaps the drugs, can eventually, inhibit our ability to feel and go through the natural course of healing. This movie was slow moving at times, but the importance was not lost to me. I like a feel good movie with a bit of romance at the end plus getting plugged in. Its fun to have positive alternatives. Well, I really enjoyed it the first few times i saw it, but then i started noticing at some points in the movie, things were overly awkward. I understand that there are scenes with old friends that are supposed to be wierd, but the script at some points was boring.
