Herbert Ross directed this Nora Ephron-scripted buddy comedy starring Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, and Joan Cusack. Steve Martin plays Vinnie Antonelli, a street smart mobster who agrees to turn state's evidence and is forced to move to Fryburg, California as part of the witness relocation program. Rick Moranis plays the nebbish FBI agent Barney Coopersmith, who is assigned to help Vinnie adjust to small town life. Instead, Vinnie helps Barney come out of his shell, much to the consternation of divorced mother and relentless district attorney Hannah Stubbs (Joan Cusack). ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

This one is always funny to watch as Steve Martin plays a "member of the family" on the witness protection program. Planted in suburbia he meets up with FBI agent, Rick Moranis and the fun begins. A must watch.

Don't listen to Daniel L's review. This is a GREAT "feel-good" movie. It IS a very underrated Steve Martin movie. and no matter how "down" you are feeling, this movie will make you smile and laugh. And, if you're Italian, you can REALLY relate to a lot of the "fish-out-of-water" references (like when Steve's Vinnie character goes looking for a specific Italian vegetable in the supermarket).

This is not my favorite movie with either steve Martin or Rick Moranis but it's pretty good. It's funny. It's kind of annoying to put up with Martin's Itallian accent but the 2 dimensional characters were funny and entertaining! Nothing completely notable in this movie but there are a few good laughs.

There are some scripts that are meant to be stage plays, and this is one of them. That the producers and directors did not understand this is a shame. I could not watch it all the way through because it was so stilted and sluggish on the screen. On the stage, however, especially with this great cast, I'm sure it would be brilliant. It also needs a new title, in my opinion.
