Read More I can see this isn't a very well liked movie, at least on this website. And, admittedly, it is one of those movies that has no definite definition; each scene can be an allegory, something else than what it is. The Coens do not give you answers, they leave doors for you to open for yourself. That style is polar; either you relish it or you despise it. But, enough with philosophy. This is one little weird movie. John Turturro is a nervous-looking playwright, off to Hollywood to write a B movie script due to the success of his Broadway play. But this is not your average Hollywood. This is a place of dripping walls, windy hallways, and the twisted "insurance" man of John Goodman. Our Fink slowly melts into oblivion as the days go on without a script written. Better than Fargo, but they're completely different. B+ Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

This movie is not a movie for everyone. If you enjoy film noir, or something to make you think truely about your life and how you treat the people around you watch this film. Every character has an important part in the enviorment around Fink. I felt like I really learned something about myself. It helped better understand the poeple in my own life. If you enjoy a movie that has an open ending where you can put in your own interpretation then watch this movie, you make take something away from it like I did. It's a film about the creative process. It is very abstract, which makes sense, since the creative process is itself rather abstract and indefinable. The ideas it presents, and the flawless cinematic execution of these ideas, make this film one of the best ever made, in my opinion. As long as you keep that in mind and cast off all expectations set by close-ended, three-act, "normal" movies, I think you'll enjoy Barton Fink. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? John Goodman is totally creepy and this is a twisted little flick. Not worth buying (after the first time the magic wears off) but definitely worth it just for the scene with the hallway on fire and that one really bad morning when Barton wakes up with a....... well, just rent it. 0 out of 0 people found this review helpful This movie had always been on my "must rent someday" list. While I was watching it, I didn't really like the movie -- it dragged in spots, most of the (over-the-top) characters were unlikeable, and the setting was more surreal than I had expected. But afterwards, I couldn't help thinking about the movie. In fact, I had to go back to rewatch some of the scenes to try to understand the Coen's allegory. Overall, One of the strangest Coen Brothers movies I've seen but definitely thought-provoking.WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I rented Barton Fink because I usually like Coen brother films, but this one is not good. The first half of the movie is torturously slow, and while the action gets going in the second half, when the movie ends your head is full of a zillion unanswered questions. Why? What? How? When? Where? Who? Barton Fink has no resolution, and thus, no point. Apart from their usual cast, I would never guess this was a Coen brothers' film. Barton Fink has to be their worst effort by far. It stinks. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
