This is one of the classic, great musicals. Robert Preston is absolutely stunning in his portrayal of Professor Hill. Shirley Jones is perfectly cast, and the minor leads are all wonderful. The music is so hummable. It will never be as great as "My Fair Lady" or as startling edgy as "Cabaret," but if you love the musical genre, this is one you shouldn't miss.

All the fuss over this musical -- a genre I love -- escapes me. This is so corny it's painful. And which songs, exactly, does anyone remember (except, perhaps 'Till There Was You' - but only because the Beatles later sang it!). I mean, does '76 Trombones' stick in your head, except in a horrible way? Sorry, but unless the MUSIC in a musical is something you would listen to on its own, the musical fails. This is a musical for people like those in 'River City' - people who wouldn't know Richard Rogers from Fred Rogers!

I'm still not sure if the Shapoopie song is dirty??? This musical ranges on the grown-up scale somewhere between Mary Poppins and Singin in the Rain.
