Kind of hard to write a review on a movie that hasn't even been made. That being said, I loved the book and hope that Depp stays true to the character of Paul Kemp. Hunter wrote this before becoming “Dr. Gonzo,” so it's more of a real story and not just his crazy escapades (much as I love them). I would hate to see Depp play Kemp as another HST caricature. Much as I love the book Fear & Loathing in LV, I could not get into the movie. I hope The Rum Diary is made as a true drama/comedy without relying only on the wackiness of HST.

I haven't seen this movie but from Depp's role in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and his intimate knowledge of the late great Dr. Hunter S. Thompson can only speak for his amazing mimetic abilities to transform into the role and capture the truest essence of what HST was attempting to put accrossed through his literary masterpieces. I only hope this will live up to FandLinLV and completely wash away the mistake that was Where the Buffaloes Roam
