Sean Connery will always be Bond to me but this fits the bill. If you lost intrest during the Roger Moore years and ran for the hills with Timothy Dalton you'll find this a welcome comeback. Read More I was skeptical about this new bond, but he really pulled the whole James Bond thing off! Yes, did not live up the expectations of the James Bond image, but at the same time, that is part of the "beauty" of this movie. He trashes the one-liners for typical, but with so much style that you not only like it but do not dare to "challenge" his right to subvert against the image. The action is fantastic, non-stop. No more gadgets. He comes off as having an emotional side to himself. In other words, they made him a wuss. I did not like the film at all. Turned into a chick flick for sure. The Bourne movies trump this at all levels, plot twists, character development, true action, etc...

Read More A very well-played movie. Has all the essentials Bond needs - the initial Bond girl who dies mid-way through the film, flashy cars (Aston Martin), cool gadgets, a sexy bond girl (Eva Green, though I think she needs a little meat on her bones), and a seemingly impossible mission. He pisses off M, again, as always, risks his life, almost dies, saves the world. The only difference between this movie and the others? Well, for one, Daniel Craig is an extraordinary Bond, though I think he took too much from Peirce Brosnan and not enough from Sean Connery. Secondly, it's much darker - Bond undergoes much more excruciating pains, but in the end he finds a new side of himself. Touching. But it's not the end; it never is. Read More I've never been a big fan of 007. I don't know what it is about the character or the story line, but it just never really grabbed me the way Jason Bourne has. With that said Casino Royal was not a bad movie. It starts off strong with a lot of action and a great chase scene. Then the story line kicks in and once again I find myself in the middle of a 007 movie feeling a little disinterested and longing for more action.
Unless it's done really well, I don't like films that remind me of Hollywood, and that's what this movie does. You get your Hollywood action scenes and throw in a little female exposure and BAAAAMMMM, you got a movie.
Final Conclusion:
Don't go out of your way to watch this movie. It has some parts that shine, but overall it's slow for an action film, unnecessary sensuality (typical hollywood), and it's just not very special. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||
