Read More "The Middle of the World" is a unique combination road movie on bicycles/coming of age story. Exquisitely photographed and beautifully scored, it chronicles a long journey by a upright indigent family to Rio de Janeiro in search of work. Along the way we see a maturing and working out relationship between the father and the eldest son. On the whole(except for one scene), this shows a slice of Brazilian society that is kindler and gentler with great natural acting. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

It was well filmed and had some beautiful footage of Brazil, but this was not a pretty-pretty tourism film....more like a "how most of the people REALLY live" movie. It wasn't a terrible ending and it wasn't a sad ending, but it wasn't a "happliy ever after" ending either. The point was easy to miss, and maybe I didn't even get it...? Subtle.
Your basic "coming of age" film, from a perspective you'd never see otherwise. It was nothing fabulous, but it wasn't dull either. It was OK. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

If you like foreign films, especially Brazilian films this is one to see. It was touching, but dragged it's feet in places. It was very interesting simply because it is based on a true story. A good coming-of-age film that shows true to life situations and hardships. The music within the film was good and meshed perfectly with the storyline. Other than the few dragging parts this was a well made film. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

It showed compassion, hardship and some suspense. The storyline of the elder son and the father was my favorite and the role of the mother was extremely interesting to me. To have the courage and force to attended to and nurture those children including an infant is amazing and the relationship of the women and her husband was a wonderful thing as well.
IâÃÂÃÂd definitely watch it again
