Previously fired from his job as manager of "Emerald City," the experimental unit set up at Oswald Correctional Facility, Tim McManus (Terry Kinney) has been reinstated by the time Oz's fifth season gets under way. The season begins with an accounting of the damage caused by the gas explosion at the end of season four. Not long afterward, "Emerald City" has new facilities, and a whole new crop of inmates -- all from solitary, having been relocated due to ventilation problems. In another development, a bus accident kills the relatives of several Emerald City inmates; among those devastated by the loss is wheelchair-bound Augustus Hill (Harold Perrineau Jr.), who makes a dangerous choice when he tries to console himself. Elsewhere, convict Miguel Alvarez (Kirk Acevedo) puts his life on the line to reassert his control over the prisoners; inmate Rebadow (George Morfogen) is cheated out of a two-million-dollar lottery prize; and the prisoners put on a variety show. Season five ends with an overabundance of cliffhanger situations involving (among other things) a comatose convict and a capital murder conviction. There is also a devastating loss at season's end -- even more devastating than the one incurred at the outset of the season. ~ Rovi
Once you enter OZ is EM City where you really want to be? Or are you better off in the general population? As you start from Season 1 the inmates slowly reveal the past and their sometime hopeless futures. Then before you know it you are starting to question if you could really survive OZ... What group would you fall in? BAM you are hooked!!!! Watch all the seasons... One of the best HBO series!
I miss Shirley..She added spice to the show. They should of had another female prisoner after she left. I was glad to see Vern get it, he is like a cat with 9 lives however. Poor Toby, he deserved to get paroled. What ever happened to Egamenomons wedding? She ditched him? They showed him waiting and that was that. Where is Chris? Tobias's man? Did he get sent to solitary or death row? What is going to happen with Ryan and Cyril and the muy bonita Dr.? This show is infreakincredible and I love every episode. It holds my attention and leaves me wanting more. I hope they find the preacher in the wall. Or will they think he passed away because of the gas explosion? Hmmmm....
Oz really represents what prison can really be like in real life from some of the stories I have heard about. All the actors are doing such a fantastic job portraying what that life is about. The representation is just so amazing. I am so captivated that once I start watching Oz, I cannot stop until I have seen all the episodes on that DVD. Oz is is just that good!

I love OZ.ive seen seasons 1-4 and loved them..but im kind of upset because they sent me season 5 & 6 both disc 1's..imean does that make any sense? Why not send me season 5 disc 1&2?Who is really gonna wanna watch 1 episode of season 5 and then start season 6...
finally after four great seasons the writers ran out of material, season five can be summarized in one word "Musical" and we all know how well musicals and prisons go together. things start to get repetitive, another shank, another scheme, more teets, another day in the hole, yet there is so much opportunity to develop the stories of other characters but half way though the season no such luck, if this continues I will not be renting season five, this proves it is very difficult to sustain a great show for 5 years, only The Wire has done that so far, and they knew when to stop, highly recommend it
I have been fan of the OZ series for about 3 years. However, this season lacked luster. It didn't carry the same deep characters. Much the focus was on the conversations and the emotional lives of the prisoners. It reminded me of "Gilmore girls go to prison."
