First of all, for all the evangelical bible bangers here, this isn't the proper forum to express your religious beliefs. I bet most of you haven't even seen the movie and are making a blanket jugment based on your religious views. That aside, this movie was a relatively poorly made movie with lackluster pacing and surprisingly miscast. I'm familiar with the novels and they have a very interesting plotline regarding science vs. religion which was not conveyed well in the movie. The ending was virutally a straight set up for a sequel. In light of the unbelivable quality of the Lord of the Rings movies, Harry Potter and the decent Narnia movies, I'd pass on this and read the books instead.

Very dificult to understand. Not bad for especial effects. I had great expectations but I wouldn't waist my time, there are much better movies out there.

I liked all the actors/actresses, but was at a total loss throughout the whole movie. I wouldn’t recommend anyone rush to rent it.

I was wary to watch this movie after everything I had heard and read about it, but I was pleasantly surprised. I am a woman of great faith, and I understand that the books were written from an Athiest viewpoint, but we are not reviewing the books, we are reviewing the movie. Had I not heard the plethora of religious outrage that stemmed from this movie, I would not have been aware of these supposed undertones. The Goldan Compass is an epic adventure full of beautiful cinematography, settings and superb acting. It follows a young girl and her companions on an adventure to rescue her friend, who happens to have been kidnapped by a tieranic government in hopes of brainwashing children to lose their sense of free will. I felt nothing but warmth, and in no way related the "governing entity" to Christ, or Christians. A great movie.

Several of the negative reviewers obviously never saw this movie - I cant see what all the fuss is about. It is an average fantasy/sci-fi type movie based in another universe. Story ends leaving a lot of loose ends (sort of seems like a pilot film for a possible TV series or some such) There is no talk of God or gods or anything like that at all. I have no idea what all the fuss is about in that regard. (Some other addenda at work that has nothing to do with the film?)

If you are a Christian, please do research on this movie. It is beyond sad that children are seeing this movie.

This book was written by someone who is a proud atheist. He decided to write a book about how in the end they kill God and live happily ever after! This too is Satan's message. In the end, all Christians know that every head will bow and every knee will bend and declare God is the Almighty. God tells us to have nothing to do with anything evil, I very strongly suggest you do not endorse this movie with your time or you money. This is the first part of the trilogy, the author and others do not want you to know the real story so that your children will get their message. My child will see none of these movies. By the way, yes I did see this movie and then researched it only to find out what all three parts are eventually about. The movie was not good, the acting was not good either. Oh, and another thing about the religious aspect of it - anyone who has read their Bible will know that even demons believe that there is a God!!
