Read More Far too many of the reviews of this movie were obviously written by people who never saw it. The movie itself was a pretty cool fantasy story and would at no time be mistaken for a representation of the world we live in. I became interested after reading about the controversy and am now reading the books. The content of which the critics speak isn't nearly what people claim, and for the most part only form the backdrop for the universe where the story takes place. Don't listen to the critics and the misinformed: watch or read for yourself and make your own opinion. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I had been somewhat turned off by the Christian chastising of the book and it's writing.. but once I took off my inhibitions, I was pleasantly surprised! This was such a fanciful movie full of intrigue and some excellent acting. Its too bad some really closed minded people gave this movie such a poor review without giving it a chance. It was a really fun fantasy story like none I have seen in such a long time.. Cant wait for the sequel! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I even liked the acting of Nicole Kidman. I am not a fan of her. I had. considered her acting ability quite boring to this movie. I enjoyed the other actors in this movie. Would highly recommend this movie!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I am interested to see how the sequels are done because the last two books are clearly anti-religion. I actually didn't realize that the first book was going there until the last chapter. I was a little disappointed at the time because it was otherwise such an imaginative and wonderful book. I felt the same disappointment when I realized that the Narnia books were pro-Christianity. I think maybe both Pullman and C.S. Lewis were wrong to try to surreptitiously influence children towards or away from religion. Then again, religious folks are always trying to change nonbelievers, so maybe it's a fair trade. My kid will be allowed to read both books, and we will discuss them. Read More Intriguing from beginning to end. A headstrong young heroine proves her mettle, aided by a device that helps her see the truth underneath deceit, she evades capture by society's best, she helps a prince achieve the throne, rescues helpless orphans from the most profound evil, befriending all who join her in this righteous cause, and at the end, she vows to fight on and free her "uncle". In fact, Yes, this movie does possess elements of true ancient Christine values. In both stories, magicians save the life of the hero/heroine who confronts the leaders of society for their wickedness and saves those that will follow. There, nice and neat! Get a life. Take the blue pill. Watch Zeitgeist: The Movie (2007). Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The casting was terrible - I thought maybe they could find a good fit for Azriel until I saw the head of the magisterium - that guy would have been the perfect. Formulaic character typing for the win.
I was greatly irritated at the 'dumbing down' of the anti christian aspects of the plot - and by the way - you Christians that whined about the authors 'satanic' whatever -that's a TERRIBLE reason to give a movie a 1 star review and you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Oh yeah - and if you actually read the books - there IS NO SATAN in the books. It's a false god who seeks to control and rob people of all things pleasurable and joyful (such as a good book series? how ironic) versus free will; not "good" versus evil. It reminds me of the Harry Potter movies only worse. I decided to turn the sound off and watch the graphics but even that got old. So I started to fast forward through it to see how the non story ended, but even the ending had little to do with the way the story started out. Unless you've read some sort of english translation of what all the giberish is about regarding this made up world that is supposed to be an alternate reality to ours, DON'T SEE THIS MOVIE.
If your an adult that finds it important for a movie to make some sence, this one won't so DON'T SEE THIS MOVIE.
If you have children, This movie is another animals at war movie. I think if your like most American at this point in time were sick of hearing about war and this kind of movie just add to the stress. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
