Tim Burton directs the fantasy drama Big Fish, based on the book Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions by Southern writer/illustrator Daniel Wallace. Billy Crudup plays William Bloom, a young man who never really knew his dying father, Edward (Albert Finney) outside of the tall tales he told about growing up, making his way, and meeting his mother (played as a young woman by Alison Lohman and in older age by Jessica Lange). During Edward's last days, William and his wife Josephine (Marion Cotillard) hold bedside vigil as the old man recollects elaborate memories of his youth (in which he is played by Ewan McGregor). Still doubting the the legends and folklore, William makes a journey to meet a mysterious woman (Helena Bonham Carter) from whom Edward had bought property. Steve Buscemi and Danny De Vito also star. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi
We watch everything Tim Burton does. We love him very much, we're big fans. This movie was not really our favorite Tim Burton movie. We found some parts of it depressing. It was still good. We would still recomend it but only to Tim Burton fans. If you don't know Tim Burton or haven't seen any of his movies, we recomend starting with Nightmare Before Christmas or Corps Bride.
A strangely compelling film. great casting. Fun to watch, keep an open mind and just enjoy. I knew someone who couldn't tell the truth to save his life. After he died, I found out there is a bona fide pathology called mythomania. He was so much fun to be around
Albert Finney truly steals the show in this heartfelt tale of life, love and death. The acting was superb by all the cast members but Finney is at his best - 4 out of 5 stars a movie I have watched 4 times already I believe it will stand the test of time certainly a worthy watch!
A wonderful 'tale'- I had seen this and was showing it to my friend. Part of the way through she was losing interest , but was glad she stuck with it. As with all good movies, there is both the obvious and the subtle message. Great acting throughout.
