Romero film Dawn of the Dead. The writer (James Gunn) and director (Zack Snyder) took the smart path and wrote a new story that takes place in the same situation as the original without trying to use the same characters and subplots as the original. This gives you a well made movie that pays homage to the original not some glitzed up retelling of the old story. The plot moves quickly the story is intelligent and the effects are great. The cast is good and the acting is well done. I highly recommend you watch this movie if you are a fan of the original or even if you have never seen it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Genuinely scary and funny. The mall guards stike an unnecessarily sour racist note but they resolve the differences and are redeemed. The scene on the roof with the Richard Cheese cover of "Down With the Sickness" playing is worth the rental all on its own. Worth watching a second time with the hilarious commentary by the Director and Producer. So why only 4 Stars? Because "The Third Man" ruins the bell curve for ALL other movies. It kept me entertained. My boyfriend was amused by the hotel lobby rendition of Drowning Pools "Down With The Sickness". I didn't even realize what song it was til I heard their version at the end of the movie. Definately take the time to see this one! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I was a little apprehensive at first about this remake because it was such an innovative film of the horror genre. However I can say that the spirit of the first one lives on. The zombies idea has progressed from slow rotting corpses to faster and more furious ones. Suprisingly enough, there is a decent ammount of gore for a mainstream movie. It may not be the first one but overall not bad. The DVD features are worth looking at as well. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

It was suspenseful and scary the whole way through. The Zack Snyder's zombies took a page out of 28 Days Later and ran with it (literally). This movie is a throwback to good scary movies. Tom Savini and George Romero should be proud. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

So I do like the original Dawn of the Dead better. This one actually was a pretty good remake compared to how most remakes turn out. I love the fact that they brought in some of the cast from the original into this one. I am old school when it comes to horror I like the slow moving killer/killers that still catch up to the victums no matter how fast they run. Overall definately worth watching. Read More The original was by far much more tense, perhaps not as "action-movie. This one lacks the charater development that makes us sad when one of the characters is eaten or becomes a Zombie. However, for myself, since the original was so intense and far scarier, I liked this one because I was able to make it through. No where near as scary, a little more exciting, less heart wrenching, faster paced. Decent effort worth a Friday night fright fest. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
