Shade, the first feature film from real-life card shark Damian Nieman, who wrote and directed the picture, stars Gabriel Byrne and Thandie Newton as a duo of con artists looking to beat the "Dean" (Sylvester Stallone), a legendary card shark, in a high-stakes poker game. Their first step is hiring two fellow tricksters -- Jamie Foxx and Stuart Townsend -- to provide the smooth talking and to procure the necessary funds. Unfortunately, Larry (Foxx) blows his hand and finds himself with 85,000 dollars worth of debt owed to a local crime boss. Shade premiered at the 2003 CineVegas film festival and also features Dina Merrill and Melanie Griffith. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi
Good movie. It has a great cast & its well acted, the director was good as well. The movie might of been a little over edited or might of needed some fine tuning from the director & this is why we are not seeing the 5 stars. (Some are comparing it to Oceans 11 which had a much larger budget, personally I like this movie better its more realistic & more suspenseful).
As a professional magician I have to say the movie was very real to life in all the technical aspects of card handling. It was also full of inside jokes for magicians such as all the characters being named for famous card sharps and magicians. I found it a lot of fun. The story line was clever and the cast was great. If card handling interests you, do watch the special features.
This movie was terrible. I play poker all the time. The idiots that filmed this have no conception of the rules of poker. And nobody plays 5-card stud anymore-what a joke. What a stupid plot as well: best cheater wins, what a laugh.
Don't see this one. It's a poorly re-done version of The Sting. This movie's plot twists were exactly like The Sting, even the titles were the same. See the original, don't waste your time.
