A man fights to bring decency and the rule of law back to his hometown in this action drama. Chris Vaughn (The Rock) left his home in Washington State's timber country to join the Army, where he distinguished himself as a member of the Special Forces. When his hitch is over, Vaughn decides to return home to help run the family business, a sawmill, but he soon makes the unpleasant discovery that things aren't what they once were. Vaughn learns that the town's lumber industry has all but dried up, and an old high school buddy, Jay Hamilton (Neal McDonough), has turned the city into a den of vice, running a large gambling casino and strip club while selling drugs and women on the side. Angry at this turn of events, and frustrated by local law enforcement officials who are willing to ignore Hamilton's crimes in exchange for kickbacks, Vaughn decides to run for sheriff, and with the help of another old friend, Ray Templeton (Johnny Knoxville), he wins the election. But Hamilton doesn't take kindly to Vaughn's attempts to clean up the town, and Vaughn discovers Hamilton's henchmen are willing to target his friends, his family, and the woman he loves (Ashley Scott) in order to have their way. Walking Tall was based on Phil Karlson's 1973 action hit of the same name, which was in turn inspired by the true story of Buford Pusser, who was sheriff of Tennessee's McNairy County between 1964 and 1970 and gained fame for his tough tactics against the local criminal element. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This version with "The Rock" is an insult to Buford Pusser and these two movies only share a name in common nothing more. If this is a remake, why not stick with the original story of an actual person who was shot eight times and stabbed seven times while fighting real crime in his own town. If you want to know the real true story, rent the 1973 movie Walking Tall-1975 Walking Tall II-1977 Walking Tall: The Final Chaper.

This is a decent movie, you have to remember that a wrestler is playing the main character, but he still does a pretty good job. And then having Johnny Knoxville as the comedy relief helped make the movie a little better. Basically about an ex-army special forces guy, The Rock, that goes back to his home town to see it has been destroyed with corruption. So, he decides to take matters into his own hands to bring his town back to where it was and where the town people use to stand, where they walked tall. It is a short movie though. It is barely over an hour. So it is a decent watch and it won't suck that much time out of your life if you end up not liking it. I definitely recommend watching it though, still a decent watch.

Walking tall is very entertaining, The rock and jonny knoxville both do great jobs acting out thier role without making them seem like the rock play chris. They both seem as thought they are the characters . A good amount of action, though throughout the movie I was waiting for it to move deep into the story and it never did which is a shame because Kevin Bray had a very good story to work with. Good fights acceptable characters a little light on the substance of the movie bu not enought to ruine the story still a buy though. you will enjoy it

This movie would be good if it was on TV on a Sunday afternoon when you were bored. It should never have made it to the big screen. There is not enough action or suspense. It is rather bland.

I knew going in that it was not going to be a cinematic masterpiece! It was good though. Just what I expected. Rock is the Rock. Big! Physical! Beats the stuffing out of people!
