I like seeing this version of Arthur both Roman and English, being torn in loyalties. Guinevere as a warrior is also interesting. But with all the gorgeous cast, the one that stood out was Ioan Gruffud as the sullen, restless Lancelot. He gave the most genuine performance. That said, I wish the plot and characters (the fascinating knights of the round table) had been developed more. A more solid story would have given this production 5 star rating. Read More This "Dark Ages" version of King Arthur, his rough-around-the-edges knights serving their 15-year forced service to Rome, and a warrior Guinevere really captured my interest. I was surprised this "Director's Cut" didn't use the original ending, which stayed true to the darker feel of the movie, rather than the "happier" ending forced on the director after initial audience previews. The director's commentary was worth listening to - especially if you're interested in details such as his using a slightly green hue in the skin tone of those knights who wouldn't make it through the movie, and his influences by other filmakers (e.g. Akira Kurosawa). -Ending? Come on...
Pros:
-Storyline was a lot different than what was expected (Avoided the whole love triangle between Arthur, Lance, and Gwen that other movies tend to overdo)
-Never a boring scene in the movie...Kept my attention for 2 hours straight. Action baby.
Good watch. Rent it! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This is a beautifully shot epic movie - whether or not it was historically accurate, I loved it. It had incredibly violent scenes, along the lines of Braveheart, and I would not show this movie to children. My 12-yr old son saw part of it at someone else's house and hated it because he felt it wasn't true to the King Arthur legends. But I enjoyed the new take on the roles of Merlin, Guinevere, Arthur and the knights. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Typical hack and slash war movie with much more blood than any real character development. The only redeeming qualities were the attempts to throw in more recent theories about King Arthur and, perhaps, some of the Celtic legends ... especially that of the Amazon Women Warriors. But, give me a "break" on the ice battle, please!?! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This is a classic Jerry Bruckheimer film: visually spectacular, brimming with high-priced talent, and both intellectually and emotionally void. The film borrows heavily from "Gladiator" (same writer) and "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" (some of the camera angles are complete lifts). The undeveloped characters yell "Freedom!!!" so often that even Braveheart would tell them to shut up. Funny thing is, this movie was really about tribal superiority, not freedom. And I guess the key to having a superior tribe is to have half-naked women lead your army into battle. I give it two stars for production value. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? The script is questionable because it claims to be factual (based on recent research, ummm...right) and it is just not very well written. The characters lack depth and the whole story is ridiculous. (Perhaps it would be better if it didn't claim to be based on truth.) The good part is that the film is impressive visually, and that is the probably the only thing that kept me from turning it off.
