Directed by Taylor Hackford, this biopic profiles the life of legendary musician Ray Charles. Despite humble beginnings and the loss of his eyesight due to glaucoma at the age of six, Charles, depicted by Jamie Foxx, would nonetheless become an icon in both the music industry and the civil rights era. While the film delves into his problems with drugs and women, the bulk of the story details his career; among the highlights of that career are 12 Grammy awards and 11 R&B chart-toppers, such as "Unchain My Heart," "Hit the Road, Jack," "Georgia," "Doin' the Mess Around," and "Hallelujah I Just Love Her So." Also among the cast are Larenz Tate as Quincy Jones, as well as Regina King, Kerry Washington, and Clifton Powell. Charles' son, Ray Charles Jr. helped produce the film. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

More than a mere impersonanation - Jamie Fox does a brilliant and honest character study of Ray Charles.

The performances were outstanding, and it goes without saying that the music was also outstanding. Well worth watching.

Jamie Fox carried this movie, and was excellent. Ray Charles became a great musician and performer. His perfomance life attracted thousands of fans, but there was certainly a dark side behind his public persona. The movie showed how people used him, and how he used people. I'm glad this movie showed both sides of him and wasn't just a fawning biopic.

This movie showcased Jamie Foxx's talent. Anyone could easily see that this movie was well-written and thoroughly researched. Fortunately, the late great Ray Charles had a large part in the development of this movie before his death. This movie is an outstanding and lasting tribute to his memory. It was great that Ray Charles' life was portrayed in an unflinching manner, especially concerning the drug abuse and womanizing. But despite it all, his contribution to great music and triumphing against overwhelming odds can be inspirational. I quickly added this movie to my permanent DVD collection and suggest you do the same.

Not the movie that I hated, it was the disc. Yet another one that did not play, it stopped about halfway through. But I will wager you will not send this one to another member !!!!!!! I said that I will cancel my membership if I received another disc that was faulty but I decided to keep the membership, just break each one in half and return it.
