This movie, literally had no point ! You may think I jest, but there was no purpose in it...it was sort of like a grim documentary on post-apocolyptic misery, only it was mild in it's depictions, thereby nullifiying it's power to move you.... Perhaps the story was supposed to be about the trauma to the boy...though you may only guess at this by the end scene, and the picture on the box, otherwise you would never know why anyone would make this stupid movie. For a MOVING and disturbing movie on a post-apocolypse, get the DAY AFTER, or even ON THE BEACH.....hell, check out kevin costners fun debackles THE POSTMAN or WATERWORLD..... This movie is awful because it has no point in existing, and perhaps that's the most devastating message of this movie......you may have just wasted time and money on this !

I can't think of enough words to describe how bad this movie was. It went against every law of storytelling- it had no linear flow (continuity), no antagonist/protagonist (ALL the characters were ill-defined and none especially sympathetic) and no beginning or end. That's right, it was 110 minutes of middle; just characters reacting to each other... and poorly, at that. Rather than rent this, I recommend beating your head against a wall for an hour. You'll feel better when you stop and you won't have spent money to do it.

I got this movie because I loved "Cache" by the same director. But THIS movie was by far not as great - in fact, I found it evil. It would have been a small masterpiece, had he not chosen to show animal killings. While these killings might have been a part of the story, there was absolutely no necessarity to actually kill them. You could have had the same effect on the viewer by faking it, implying the killing and leaving it off screen. Like the shooting of the husband, that was off screen, and we still got it. And I am sure the actor playing the husband was not really killed. So why killing the horse and the goat in front of the camera, and then for real??? This was my last Haneke, I am sorry.

I think I would rather be subjected to a root cannel then watching this movie again. What’s sad is it could have been a good movie, the premise is great but the pedantic way they decided to create the film was like akin to watching paint dry. There was one seen where the main characters were eating some snack food that, I kid you not, lasted over 8 minutes. All they did is pan back and forth watching them eat in silence. There were several other “thriller” scenes just like it, and the ending will leave you wanting to know... "Why did I just sit though this mess for nearly 2 hours" There are plenty of decent films in the genre like "A boy and his dog" etc, Do your self a favour and rent or buy one of them.

What was I thinking when I asked for this turkey? Maybe it makes sence in France , but this American does not get it.
