The world is made up of both good & bad people and the film addresses this point and shows how the children sticking together gives them strength. Each of them have certain talents that when used individually would not be as powerful as when all used together. Strength in family and in numbers!
The acting by the children is supurb! I hope to see the older children in future movies. I like Jim Carey, but he can wear on me sometimes. This movie did a nice job of showcasing his unique talent, while not letting it run amuck.
The visuals were great in this film. As a fan of Tim Burton, I enjoyed the somewhat dark feel. Although there was a mish-mash of time periods in the movie, they did not feel out of place. Read MoreIf you haven't an ounce of artist in you or you are in the kind of mood that watching any movie is difficult, then of course this movie isn't for you. For anyone who has an imagination, and open to new adventures, this movie was fantastic! Had sort of a Harry Potter meets the Adams' Family kind of feel. The special effects and original/unique story about a brilliant and interesting alternate universe with dynamic characters/creatures that tickles the senses and stimulates the mind. Every scene is so full of detail and artistry, in the makeup and special effects. Sure, some of it is hard to believe, but you are drawn into the movie and conditioned to truly believe anything is possible in this world. You don't have to like Jim Carrey to like this movie, you just need to be open to theatrical entertainment. Great, unique movie! I even enjoyed the closing credits! Read MoreEvery member of our family thoroughly enjoyed this movie. We are not normally Jim Carrey fans, however, his ability to create caricatures fit this movie well. All characters were very well portrayed and the children were extremely talented. As the title states, it is a series of UNFORTUNATE events and may not be suitable for young children or be enjoyed by all. What I found to be most appealing was that the children did not work through their problems using magic or slapstick antics. Rather, they used their intellects and ingenuity while working together as a family. I would much rather my children adopt Violet and Klaus as role models than Harry Potter or the Home Alone actors.
