I've seen this movie at least 5 times. Joel Schumacher, the movie's director, was perfect in creating extraordinary transition scenes from the current time of the 1920s Paris, then returning back to 1871, during the Opera House's glory days. The beginning scenes were extremely impressive. The well-recognized Phantom of the Opera overture plays, as the old opera house becomes new again, evokes goose bumps. I recommend you use subtitles, so as not to miss anything. The contrast of good and evil were played up perfectly. Needless to say, 5 stars are given. All actors were perfectly cast, and all where quite handsome. Don't miss it.

I watched this when it first come out and loved it. I watched it again when I realized that the Phantom Gerard Butler is the king in 300! Wow that man can sing :)

Phantom of the opera is a wonderful film. It starts out in black and white but then does and amazing trazition into a colored film. If you don't like music you probally don't want to rent it due to more than half the movie is singing. If your like me (a music lover) you'll want to watch it over and over again. The only thing I found disappointing was I thought the phantoms makeup could have been better. Besides that I thought it was a great movie.

What a beautiful story!! Taking place back in the day in France. Christine, a back up dancer in a big upcoming production, is a young aspiring star who finally gets her big break after La Carlotta, the lead star in the big show, walks off the stage the day before opening night . The phantom that "haunts" the theater hears Christine sing and instantly falls in love with her. Watching this obsession grow stronger and stronger is sooo exciting!! After seeing the play, I had to get the soundtrack!! What passion and intensity, and I really don't think anyone could have played a more beautiful phantom that Gerard Butler! I mean everyhting you can want in a movie- romance, action, darkness, and of course the intoxicating music!

This was my first time watching this movie, I've heard so much about it. I was going in and out of focus because there was so, so, so much singing in this movie and believe me I do understand that this centers around the broadway play. I like the love end of the story but hated all that DAMN!!! SINGING.

music is great, sets and customes great, it's a little boring when everything is sung and they don't speak for hours (it feels like)... not my favorite movie, but not bad to watch either.
