Our whole family loves this movie, from my husband and I, our 13 year old all the way down to our 3 year old. Great movie, Tom Hanks did a WONDERFUL job, and awesome graphics!! CLASSIC!! WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

Kids don't need songs every ten minutes to keep it interesting. You can make a family movie that involves character development and real conflict. And interesting characters - our protagonist is a complete waste and his friends are sketches at best. Furthermore, there's no struggle involved.
Basically the problems originate with the source material - the book is amazing, but it's too short to translate to the screen on its own. So they had to add to it to make a feature film. Only instead of emphasizing conflict and change, they employ gadgetry and songs (awful, awful songs) to fill out the gaps.
Yes, the animation is great. But when was the last time a poorly animated film was wide released? Overall, this film is a wasted opportunity. See Home Alone for an example of a family film that respects its audience. Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

Those people who don't take the time to analyze and absorb the material can understandably rate this movie low. But, those who can take the message without immediatly prejudicly taking this movie for some sort of childish carnation of a christmas movie can take this movie for a christmas classic.
